MUDSA is pleased to announce that after much discussion, there has been a break through with talks and the club will now allow all disabled members who can reach it, access to the Ability Suite.
This will initially be on a trial basis until the end of the season when it will be reviewed. Hopefully the trial will go well and we can return to Universal Access on a permanent basis.
Everyone who enters via AE2 will still have the option of using all the facilities on the AE2 concourse.
Universal Access to the Phil Downs Ability Suite
Following the success of the universal access to the AS during the Juventus game for all members and the proposed repeat action for the game against Young Boys of Bern, I’d like to ask the club to revisit this issue.
As you know, MUDSA have lobbied the club in favour of universal access for quite some time now, but I want to ask that in the light of the suite having been accessible to all and no obvious downside that we can see, could the club please reconsider opening the AS to all members who are able to reach it?
Clearly there will have to agreed guidelines (e.g. no oversized Mobility Scooters) and some form of dynamic stewarding, to prevent the suite becoming over crowded.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Chas Banks Secretary MUDSA
As verbalised last night, apologies for the delay in replying, as you know we have been discussing this internally for some time. I am pleased to confirm that our Security team has approved permitting access to the ability suite to those disabled supporters who currently access the stadium through AE2, providing:
- Entry to the stadium is still via AE2
- Egress from the stadium is via the East Stand
- We approach this as a game-by-game trial, effective from Young Boys on 27th Nov, until the end of the season, at which point we can review the permanent status
If we experience busy occasions, I have also asked Emma to hold initial discussions with our catering team, to review the potential for in-seat service, which thinking ahead, may be a beneficial test-platform for the future anyway?
